City Hall, Mayor’s Balcony

On Tuesday, August 18, we celebrated the inaugural flight from SFO to Panama with a Welcome Reception on the Mayor’s Balcony at San Francisco’s impressive City Hall. Guests were greeted with the mellow sound of the VNote Ensemble trio, a compelling fusion of Venezuelan folk music with adventurous jazz explorations. The passed food and drinks were flavorful, depicting a subtly Latin ambience with mahi mahi and rock shrimp ceviche, manchego and quince squares, and grilled chorizo skewers by All Seasons Catering.

The event program began with Mark Chandler, Director of the San Francisco Mayor’s Office of International Trade & Commerce Division. As the reception hit full capacity – guests in attendance began to overflow from the balcony to the hall as they gathered to hear the officials speak. Mayor Edwin Lee and SFO’s Chief Operating Officer, Ivar Satero, both followed to welcome Copa Airlines. They discussed how the new flight service from Copa would strengthen San Francisco’s bond with Panama City and Central America in a considerable new way. A beautiful model airplane was exchanged to signify the importance of the opening to the city.

Copa Airlines’ new service will offer connections to over 55 cities in Latin America, and will depart SFO daily starting service on September 17, 2015.
