This year we celebrated in gold for the 50th anniversary of the California International Antiquarian Book Fair. The fair took place February 10th-12th at the Oakland Marriott City Center and hosted 173 exhibitors from around the world including France, Georgia, and Budapest. Attendees stepped back in time finding rare posters, folios, and first edition books among other exciting finds.
This years fair also included a special collection of literary fiction from The Bancroft Library at The University of California, Berkeley. This special exhibit highlighted California authors’ notable contributions in the fiction genre and emphasized recent donations to the library by featuring materials from the extensive collection of influential author, critic, and literary mentor Anthony Boucher. The exhibit also included first editions by early members of the Northern California Chapter of Mystery Writers of America, selections by popular western and adventure writer Kenneth Perkins and MWA Grand Master Ross Macdonald, and more.
Highlights included our seminars and discovery day where attendees brought their own rare treasures to be appraised by some of our dealers. Guests also enjoyed “Book Fair Finds” which allowed them to find great items priced at $100 and under. Many attendees found their way to our special exhibits section that featured local “book art” artists and organizations including calligraphers, book binders, and small press operators.
White Rain Productions would like to thank everyone that helped us make this year another great one. Special thanks to our production partners: EPI, Caladex, Bustamante, Denise Lamott Public Relations, Grace Street Catering, and Travelin’ Joe Espresso.
Save the date for 2018! We will be back in Southern California at the Pasadena Convention Center February 9-11. We look forward to seeing you there!
